I hate admitting failure ...

Lawn tractor was slowly becoming more difficult to start last summer and I barely used it this summer because I finally figured out people will come mow it for next to nothing so why should I waste my time? This summer I was running it every three or four weeks just to keep things moving but in July it quit starting completely. I have tested the battery and it is fine so I just replaced the starter for a cool $70. Nothing ... sometimes I hear a click so I think the solenoid is ok but other times it doesn't even click. Cables look ok ... don't think it is the brake sensor or the blade sensor. The only reason I still use it is to pick up leaves in the fall with the lawn sweeper - thing saves me HOURS every fall ... except for this one apparently. I am going to break down and call somebody and then I might sell the damn thing and buy a golf cart that will tow the lawn sweeper. :)
